I can do it....BY MYSELF!!!

To the title... when we were kids my dad would read us this book... the book went through a whole bunch of different activities that we did everyday like brushing your teeth, putting on clothes, buttoning a shirt, etc.....now the book wasn't what I really remember but when my dad would read it he would say in his soft dad like way "I can do it" as the 4 kids would then scream "BY MYSELF!!!" I could say this may have been the start of all the stubborn attitude of me and my siblings, but really an important lesson.

So any times I have heard people say "but I'm just one person," when it comes to changing the world. Let me remind you of one important quote by Margaret Mead:

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful,
committed citizens can change the world.
Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has"

You can be that committed citizen and all you have to do is SPREAD THE WORD! which brings me to my first action......

SPREAD THE WORD!

Spreading the word can be a way to really get people hyped about what you want out of the world. It's like high school again, starting the rumor, expect this time it isn't about who is pregnant, or who is suspended, or who is dating who and who got caught at what party doing whatever, this time it's about doing something good and to make people feel good.

Start this with me, spread the word about doing good. The best way to do this I have found is just to do good. I guess you could tell people about this blog, but I trust taht you will spread the word in your own unique way.

To get you started, there are a few blogs that have already been created to help you spread the word....
1. a practical blog for impractical people....http://blog.guykawasaki.com/#axzz0qIn1T61c
2. 365 ways to change the world...http://www.365act.com/
3.Many of my ideas come from here....We are What we Do....wearewhatwedo.org

start a conversastion with someone you knwo and trust and say "hey I am going to do my part to change the world" they may look at you (like so many people have at me) a little oddly, this can start some really engaging conversations though. This may seem a little daunting but I promise you can do it......BY YOURSELF!

lets start from the very beginning.....

An introduction.... I am Jacqui, I am a student, a worker, and a recycling enthusiast.... recently I was listed the superlative part of my works year book as "Most likely to start a riot for world peace."

This blog is the start of my way of making world peace happen, but let me clear a few things up.

1. I do not have the answers
2. I don't believe world peace is a good thing
3. I think that Ben Harper was exactly right that I can change the world with my own two hands.

To tell you the goal of this blog I don't really have one, the only thing I can say I will do is help to inspire people to live simply, live greener, and reducing your carbon footprint** doesn't necessarily mean that you have to live inconveniently or more expensively.

Throughout these next few months I am going to be living in a simply way....to change the world. Do something everyday, every-week, every-month, to make a difference in the world. I will be telling about a few of my encounters, some of my advice (if it's worth anything), and hopefully clear up some misconceptions about what being "green" really is.

*world peace doesn't have an actual definition because if varies from culture to culture, what I dream of is world justice.
**Carbon footprint refers to "a measure of the impact our activities have on the environment. It relates to the amount of greenhouse gases produced in our day-to-day lives through burning fossil fuels for electricity, heating and transportation etc" (carbonfootprint.com)....basically carbon dioxide... you can learn more about your own carbon footprint at http://www.carbonfootprint.com/calculator.aspx
